We held our monthly BBQ and Sausage Sizzle. The days highlight was judging of Terry's pumpkin challenge, with the winner, Bob Salmond - details (40 members signed the book).

Martin van der Hoek talked about his trip on the Otago Rail Trail in NZ. Writeup of the details in Newsletter #131. Tom Davies from orbost Shed also visited and told us about the fire of Jan 2012 and activities to return their Shed to full working condition (44 members signed the book).

Walk: Lake Ginninderra Alternative - Melba Fields - Florey - Lake Ginn West - Ginninderra Ck. 6 of us walked from Melba Playing Fields through Florey and around part of the Lake, Easy-medium, 2.0 hrs, 8.2Km

Alan Tongue, former Raiders' captain talked about his life and approach to rugby league (around 40 members attended, 36 signed the book) More information. Jennifer Thompson from Engaging Solutions visited our Shed on 3rd May 2012 accompanying David Livingstone and Harry Enright. More info. She was undertaking a digital storytelling project

Walk: Diplomatic & Old Canberra (Stirling Park - Westlake). 7 of us walked around this interesting area. Easy, 6.5Km, 2 hrs

New North Belconnen Uniting Church Minister, Rev Tim Jensen gave an enlightening talk about where he grew up and the things that influenced him during his life before he moved to Canberra More Information (around 40 members attended, 37 signed the book) Ken Harris from Scottsdale mens Shed in Tasmania gave us an inspiring overview of how their shed has developed over the last 10 years and saved several members from possible suicide

(Mon) Greenhills working bee was held with around 13 shed members assisting

(Sat) YMCA Garage Sale Yarralumla. Shed volunteers helped set up the sale and clear up after, as well as running the BBQ. We raised around $183 thnaks to Don, Jim and Drew on the BBQ

Brad Pillans (President of the Geological Society of Australia (GSA)) gave a talk on the planned Canberra National Rock Garden near the shores of Lake Burley Griffin and close to the aboretum. (32 members signed the book) See

Three Shed Member Speakers: Eric Carle talked about his experiences as a commercial fisherman; Bob Salmond talked about his trip to Holland and Scandinavia; Brian Wells talked about some of the scams he has come across in his interesting career (34 members signed the book)

Excellent presentation by Don Gruber on the Newnes Oil Shale ruins and history of them as a result of a visit by the Secret Men's Business last year. 29 of us visited the Canberra Museum to see and have tours of the King O'Malley Exhibition and Old Bones New Insights Exhibition in the North Building at Civic Square. Pictures

Talk by Meredith Hunter and Shane Rattenbury from the ACT Greens. A rnage of questions on plastic bags, bike racks on buses, etc were asked. Pres Harry instigated a process of nominating who could ask the next question as you see at say the Press Club (around 35 members attended, 27 signed the book)

Walk: Farrer Ridge - Mt Wanniassa. 8 of us walked 4.4Km around Farrer Ridge and over Mt Waniassa. Medium scenic walk with some climbs, 1.75 hrs

BBQ, Sausage Sizzle was held (around 35 members attended - 30 signed the book). We started with announcements including the option of helping with a new Meccano group at Charnwood/Dunlop school, plus we sang some songs from a Shed Song Book

Pat & Warwick Wright from the Friends of National Botanic Gardens gave an exciting talk about "Who is the smartest - plants or animals?" I think the inference was that plants overall are smarter (around 36 members attended)

Walk: ANU Acton Walk. 14 of us (including 3 wives) walked 7.9Km around Acton and the ANU and visited some 46 art sites, plus had coffee at the Purple Pickle Cafe. Easy-medium walk, 3.5 hrs total

Behind the Scenes tour of the National Library, including a tour of Treasures gallery (around 28 members attended)

Dr Chris Peters CEO of the Chamber of Commerce & Industry spoke about his role in fostering industry growth in the ACT and the role of the chamber in the aftermath of 2003 bushfires. He also spoke about his personal battle with pancreatic cancer. We wish him all the best with this battle (around 35 members attended)

Walk: Parliament Houses Gardens. 11 of us walked around the gardens and has coffee at the National Library cafe. Easy 5.7Km, 2.5 hrs total
